A vehicle left standing for a long time needs preparation: fuel level as advised in the manual, tyres inflated, battery disconnected or kept on charge, handbrake released on level ground if the manual allows, and the interior clean and dry to avoid smells. No fuel cans, gas cylinders or flammable products are stored in or beside the vehicle.
Draw up a list of what is stored, with the condition of each item, photograph the important pieces and keep a copy. Perishable food, flammable products, gas cylinders, aerosols and animals are not stored. Documents, jewellery, keys, medicines and valuables stay with you.
