An uneven wall, surface-cracked or damaged after wallpaper removal benefits from skimming. Successive coats of smoothing compound give a flat, smooth surface ready for paint or wallpaper. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in Canada are notified of your request.
Depending on what you agree with the worker, the job can include protection, scraping loose areas, priming if needed, applying compound in one or more coats, sanding and dusting.
A damp wall or one with efflorescence must first be treated at the source; otherwise skim and paint will deteriorate.
Sanding creates a lot of dust: covering furniture, ventilation and a mask are recommended.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
To smooth an existing wall, skim is usually enough; a badly damaged wall may need plastering.
