On-site welding in South Africa

On-site welding — South Africa

Some metal repairs cannot go to a workshop: a broken gate hinge, a detached grille, a cracked railing, a structure to reinforce. An equipped welder then works on site. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in South Africa are notified of your request.

What the service covers

broken hinges, pins and brackets;
detached bars and grilles;
metal railings, balustrades and stairs;
frames, supports and light structures;
small modifications and added parts.

Depending on the diagnosis and what you agree with the worker, the job can include preparing parts, welding, grinding, anti-rust protection and paint touch-up.

Key points

Safety around the work

Welding produces sparks and heat: flammable materials must be moved away and the area cleared. Mention any particular risk.

Power supply

Depending on the worker's equipment, a nearby electrical socket may be needed; say whether one is available.

What affects the price

number of weld points;
thickness and type of metal;
access and height;
any removal and refitting;
finish (grinding, painting).

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.

Frequently asked questions

Can aluminium or stainless steel be welded on site?

It depends on the worker's equipment; specify the metal in your request.

Does welding damage the paint?

The heated area must be repainted; plan for a touch-up.

Does the gate need removing?

Not always; on-site welding often avoids removal.

What information should I give?

The item to repair, metal type, nature of the break, access and availability of a socket.
