A wide crack that runs through the wall, widens over time or forms a stepped pattern in masonry is not a simple render defect. It reflects movement in the building, whose cause must be understood before any repair. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in United States are notified of your request.
Depending on the diagnosis and what you agree with the worker, the job can include opening and cleaning the crack, suitable filling, masonry repair, reinforcement defined beforehand, then render and finishing.
Ground settlement, overloading, water ingress, expansion: the cause determines the repair. For a significant or active crack, advice from a qualified structural professional is recommended before work.
Recording the crack's length and width at regular intervals shows whether it is stable or active. Mention it in your request.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
A surface crack stays within the render; a structural crack affects the masonry itself. The "Crack sealing" service covers the first case.
It deserves checking, especially if it is widening or doors are starting to stick.
Not without knowing its cause: an active crack reappears if the movement continues.
Location, dimensions, when it appeared, whether it is changing, and any related signs (damp, sticking doors).
