Cement rendering in Saint Lucia

Cement rendering — Saint Lucia

A bare brick or block wall needs rendering to be protected, trued up and ready for a finish. Cracked or loose render should be redone before moisture sets in. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in Saint Lucia are notified of your request.

What the service covers

cement render on a new wall, inside or outside;
repairing damaged or loose render;
render for façades, low walls or boundary walls;
floated, smooth, scraped or rustic finishes.

Depending on what you agree with the worker, the job can include preparing the surface, a bonding scratch coat, the main coat trued with a straightedge, the finish and protecting surrounding areas. Any scaffolding should be specified.

Key points

The substrate

A dusty, crumbly or overly smooth surface compromises adhesion. Old render that sounds hollow must be removed before repair.

Timing and weather

Render is not applied in full sun or rain, and each coat needs drying time. On a façade, the season matters.

What affects the price

wall area and height;
interior or façade, scaffolding needed;
condition of the surface and removal of old render;
type of finish;
supply of materials.

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.

Frequently asked questions

How many coats are needed?

Usually three stages: bonding coat, main coat and finish. Some ready-mixed renders need fewer.

Can cement render be painted?

Yes, once fully dry, with a paint suited to the surface and to indoor or outdoor use.

Does render cure damp?

No. It protects the wall, but existing damp must first be treated at its source.

What information should I give?

The area, height, wall condition, indoors or outdoors, the desired finish and access.
