Internet router and fibre setup in South Africa

Internet router and fibre setup — South Africa

A router tucked into a closed hallway halves the coverage. Placement, wifi channel and configuration often matter more than the speed advertised with the subscription. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in South Africa are notified of your request.

What the service covers

connecting and commissioning the router;
configuring and securing the wifi;
improving coverage across the home;
connecting devices and the TV;
guest network and parental controls.

Depending on the agreement, the job can include the installation, wifi settings, a room-by-room coverage check, connecting devices, securing the network and an explanation of the settings.

Key points

Equipment and electricity

The device is unplugged before opening it, and a lithium battery that is swollen, punctured or getting hot is not handled: it is kept away from anything flammable and taken to a collection point. Components are handled on a clean surface with no liquid nearby, and screws and ribbon cables go back in order. A device still under warranty is not opened without checking what that implies.

Network and access

Change the default password of the router and the wifi, and keep the new one to yourself: sharing it with a neighbour means opening your network and the devices on it. That is what a guest network is for. Remote access to a computer is opened only for the duration of the job and closed afterwards, and a code received by message is never given to whoever calls or writes to you.

What affects the price

nature of the problem;
equipment involved;
length of the job;
parts or licences needed;
travel or remote support.

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.

Frequently asked questions

Can the work be done remotely?

Often yes for software or configuration; a hardware fault requires a visit.

Is my data safe?

Back up before the job; your files are neither copied nor kept.

Will parts or licences need buying?

Depending on the diagnosis; the estimate is given before any purchase.

What information should I give?

The equipment, the system, the exact error message, how long it has been happening and what changed before the fault.

How does it work?
