A composter that smells is almost always too wet and not turned enough. The right balance between green waste and dry matter, plus a well-chosen spot, is enough to get compost without smells. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in Saint Lucia are notified of your request.
Depending on the agreement, the service can include choosing the location, the installation, organising indoor sorting, an explanation of how it works and a follow-up visit after a few weeks.
Meat, fish, dairy and greasy leftovers attract rodents and create smells: they do not go into a home composter. Nor do dog and cat droppings, treated plant matter or painted or varnished wood. The composter goes away from windows and from the neighbour's boundary, stays closed, and turning it is done with gloves followed by handwashing.
An emergency call-out is still a service that can be discussed: ask for the estimated amount before the work starts, a detailed invoice at the end, and refuse to sign a document you have not read. Be wary of anyone piling up unjustified replacements, demanding immediate cash payment or refusing to put their estimate in writing. The worker must be qualified for the work concerned.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
