A clearance is decided at the sorting stage: what is sorted becomes a donation, a resale or recycling; what is not ends up as waste. Taking the time to separate changes the outcome and often the cost. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in United States are notified of your request.
Depending on the agreement, the service can include sorting with you, boxing up, carrying, disposal through the right channels, the final clean and handing over disposal receipts if provided.
A cellar or loft closed for years holds dust, mould and sometimes pest nests: mask, gloves, closed shoes and airing before starting. Heavy loads are carried by two people, with a clear route and enough light. Unknown chemicals, gas cylinders, swollen batteries, materials suspected of containing asbestos or dangerous objects are not handled: they are flagged and passed to an authorised channel.
Sorting belongs to the client: nothing is thrown away, given away or sold without approval, and sensitive items — papers, photos, jewellery, post, keepsakes — are set aside for you to decide yourself. What the worker sees among your belongings stays confidential. What is disposed of goes to the right channel: donation, recycling or a waste centre, never fly-tipping.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
