Annual servicing is not a formality: it extends the appliance's life, reduces consumption and above all checks the safety devices and the flue, which is what protects the occupants. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in Saint Lucia are notified of your request.
Depending on the agreement, the visit can include cleaning, safety checks, flue verification, adjustments, a function test and the issue of the service certificate.
A gas water heater is not handled yourself and requires permanent ventilation that is never blocked. Carbon monoxide cannot be seen or smelled: headaches, nausea, tiredness or dizziness affecting several people, or easing when you go outside, mean opening the windows, switching the appliance off, going out and calling the emergency services. If you smell gas, touch no switch and call from outside.
An emergency call-out is still a service that can be discussed: ask for the estimated amount before the work starts, a detailed invoice at the end, and refuse to sign a document you have not read. Be wary of anyone piling up unjustified replacements, demanding immediate cash payment or refusing to put their estimate in writing. The worker must be qualified for the work concerned.
