Crack Sealing in Saint Lucia

Crack sealing — Saint Lucia

A crack in a wall or ceiling is unsightly and often comes back after a simple coat of paint. Properly sealed, it disappears for good under the finish. This service covers surface cracks in render, plaster or partitions. On Helplease, you describe the crack and the workers offering this service in Saint Lucia are notified of your request.

Types of cracks covered

Hairline cracks in plaster or paint.
Shrinkage cracks that appear after render or screed has dried.
Cracks at junctions: wall corners, wall-to-ceiling joints, joints between plasterboards.
Cracks around frames: above a door or at the corners of a window.

How the sealing is done

Depending on what you agree with the worker, the job can include opening up the crack to remove loose material, removing dust, applying a suitable filler, fitting reinforcing tape if needed, sanding and leaving a surface ready to paint. Whether the area or the whole wall is then painted should be specified.

Key points

Surface or structural crack

A wide crack that runs through the wall, widens over time or forms a stepped pattern in masonry may indicate a structural problem. It is not a matter of simple sealing: a structural crack repair service exists in the catalogue, and suitable professional advice may be needed.

Moisture

A crack with damp marks, blistering or efflorescence requires the cause to be treated first, otherwise it will come back.

Recurring cracks

Some cracks move with temperature changes. A flexible filler or reinforcing mesh tape limits their return.

What affects the price

the number and length of cracks;
their width and the condition of the surrounding plaster;
height (wall or ceiling) and access;
fitting of reinforcing tape;
repainting after filling;
supply of products.

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.

Frequently asked questions

Is painting over a crack enough?

No, the crack usually comes back. It needs to be opened up, filled and sanded before painting.

Will the crack be invisible?

After filling and painting, it usually cannot be seen. Without repainting, the filled area remains visible.

How can I tell if my crack is serious?

If it is wide, goes through the wall, is getting bigger or doors have started to stick, mention it: sealing alone will not be enough.

What information should I give?

The number of cracks, their approximate length and width, their location, any signs of moisture, and whether you want repainting.
