Ceiling Painting in Saint Lucia

Ceiling painting — Saint Lucia

A yellowed, stained or simply dull ceiling changes the light in the whole room. Yet it is one of the most tiring painting jobs to do yourself: arms raised, spatter, lap marks that show up in low-angle light. On Helplease, you describe the room and the condition of the ceiling, and the workers offering this service in Saint Lucia are notified of your request.

Common situations

refreshing a sound ceiling in the same colour;
changing colour, or going from a dark shade back to white;
a kitchen or bathroom ceiling marked by grease or moisture;
a ceiling stained by a past leak, once the cause has been fixed;
a new plaster or plasterboard ceiling to paint for the first time.

The stages of painting a ceiling

Depending on the condition of the surface and what you agree with the worker, the job can include:

protection of the floor, remaining furniture, the top of the walls and light fittings;
preparation: washing, scraping flaking areas, filling fine cracks, sanding;
primer, useful on new, stained or very absorbent surfaces;
application, usually two coats with a roller, with corners and edges cut in by brush;
cleaning up and removing the protection.

Key points

The type of paint

Matt paint is often chosen for ceilings because it hides small imperfections better. In a kitchen or bathroom, a paint suited to humid rooms is preferable. Say whether you supply the paint or whether the worker should buy it.

Stains and moisture

A water stain often bleeds through a single coat of paint. It needs a suitable stain-blocking primer and, above all, the leak must be repaired first. If there is mould, mention it.

Decorated ceilings

Mouldings, cornices or carved plaster require more careful work and should be mentioned in your request.

Ceiling height

Above a standard height, a stepladder is no longer enough and a mobile scaffold may be needed. Give the approximate height.

What affects the price

the ceiling area and height;
the condition of the surface and the amount of preparation;
stains, cracks or flaking old paint;
a change of colour and the number of coats;
mouldings or decorative features;
whether the room is empty or furnished;
supply of paint and materials.

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to empty the room?

It makes things easier. Otherwise, furniture is gathered in the middle and covered. Say whether the room will be empty or furnished.

How many coats are needed?

Two coats are usual for an even finish. A new or stained surface also needs a primer.

Can a ceiling stained by a leak be painted?

Yes, once the leak is repaired and the surface is dry, using a suitable primer so the stain does not come back.

Who supplies the paint?

Either option is possible. If you buy it yourself, give the brand and colour; otherwise, agree on the type of paint with the worker.

Can the worker paint the walls too?

Yes, if it is included in your request. For a whole room, the interior painting service may be more suitable.
