A crack in a wall or ceiling is unsightly and often comes back after a simple coat of paint. Properly sealed, it disappears for good under the finish. This service covers surface cracks in render, plaster or partitions. On Helplease, you describe the crack and the workers offering this service in Canada are notified of your request.
Depending on what you agree with the worker, the job can include opening up the crack to remove loose material, removing dust, applying a suitable filler, fitting reinforcing tape if needed, sanding and leaving a surface ready to paint. Whether the area or the whole wall is then painted should be specified.
A wide crack that runs through the wall, widens over time or forms a stepped pattern in masonry may indicate a structural problem. It is not a matter of simple sealing: a structural crack repair service exists in the catalogue, and suitable professional advice may be needed.
A crack with damp marks, blistering or efflorescence requires the cause to be treated first, otherwise it will come back.
Some cracks move with temperature changes. A flexible filler or reinforcing mesh tape limits their return.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
No, the crack usually comes back. It needs to be opened up, filled and sanded before painting.
After filling and painting, it usually cannot be seen. Without repainting, the filled area remains visible.
If it is wide, goes through the wall, is getting bigger or doors have started to stick, mention it: sealing alone will not be enough.
