Calligraphy is learnt through the movement before the aesthetics: position, pressure, breathing. The first sessions are about repeated strokes that feel thankless, and that make all the difference three weeks later. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in Finland are notified of your request.
Depending on the agreement, the session can include choosing the tools, stroke exercises, learning the letters, composing a piece and advice for practising between sessions.
For a learner under 18, the workshop takes place in a shared room or with the door open, at an agreed time, with parents informed about the content. Materials are chosen to suit the age: cutting tools, strong glues, fixatives and sprays are used under adult supervision, in a ventilated room and on a protected surface. Products are resealed after use and stored out of children's reach.
Paints, varnishes, glues, fixatives and solvents are used with a window open, away from any flame, with gloves and on a protected surface. Never mix two products, and soaked rags are dried flat outdoors before being thrown away, never bundled up. After the session, products are resealed and stored out of children's reach, and hands are washed before eating.
The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
