Tyre replacement in South Africa

Tyre replacement — South Africa

Tyres are the only contact between the vehicle and the road: four patches the size of a hand. Uneven wear or low pressure lengthens braking distances long before it becomes visible. On Helplease, you describe your needs and the workers offering this service in South Africa are notified of your request.

What the service covers

fitting and removing tyres;
balancing and visible alignment check;
front-to-rear rotation;
checking pressure and wear;
taking away the used tyres.

Depending on the agreement, the job can include the wear check, the estimate, removal, fitting, balancing, setting the pressures, torque tightening and disposal of the old tyres.

Key points

Vehicle secured and engine cold

A vehicle is never worked on supported by a jack alone: handbrake on, wheels chocked, axle stands in place on flat, hard ground. Work is done with the engine off and cooled, because a hot cooling system is under pressure and scalds the moment a cap is opened. Fixings are tightened to the manufacturer's torque, and a short test drive is made before going back on the road.

Quote and vigilance in an emergency

An emergency call-out is still a service that can be discussed: ask for the estimated amount before the work starts, a detailed invoice at the end, and refuse to sign a document you have not read. Be wary of anyone piling up unjustified replacements, demanding immediate cash payment or refusing to put their estimate in writing. The worker must be qualified for the work concerned.

What affects the price

type of work;
the vehicle model;
parts and consumables;
location: home, office or car park;
length of the job.

The rate is agreed with the worker based on these elements.
